The Girls From Alcyone II: Freelancer
It's been a while. Too long! But after a much needed break, we're back at it.
This Week: This week (more from TGfA II), Sigrid faces her greatest challenge yet: dinner and a show!
The date proved quite an adventure. Suko arranged the whole affair. First there was a quiet dinner at a lovely restaurant on the Promenade. A table had been reserved on a wide terrace overlooking the concourse. When they got to the seats, Suko waited patiently until Sigrid realized she was waiting for her to hold her chair for her. They both made a show of it; Suko holding out her right hand, Sigrid taking it and bowing deeply, pushing her chair in toward the table. It caused a great fit of giggles, and many looks from the curious patrons.
"Don't worry—next time you're in the bloody dress," Suko said, crunching on a bread stick. "I insist."
"I'm quite happy in pants, thank you very much."

I agree, I much prefer pants! Welcome back, stranger!! You know we're all eagerly anticipating the release of TGfA II.
ReplyDeletePS: Happy birthday!! Now you've got EXTRA attention today. Hee-hee!! :D
DeleteIronically, I'd WAY rather wear dresses, were society to permit such things. Alas, I am resigned to trousers.
DeleteGet a kilt!
DeleteLol. I considered that, but people still tend to stare (and not in the good way).
DeleteAw, how romantic! I love seeing the two of them together.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you posting again! I was wondering what had happened to you. And, happy birthday! I had no idea. Make it a great one.
I needed a break (felt burned out - not on SFFSat, but on writing).
DeleteHmm...pants or dress...always a quandary. There is some interesting interaction between two characters I could definitely read more about.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! You've got it a bit backwards here though since you're giving #SFFSAT a gift by returning! Missed the girls. Fun snippet--the humor is lovely. Depends on my mood as to whether or not I prefer a dress or pants.
ReplyDeleteI missed the girls, too. It was definitely time to get back at it.
DeleteMissed you. I gather the girls are trying to make themselves less conspicuous?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue Ann. I've definitely missed reading all your terrific instalments. As for Sigrid and Suko, I don't think they now the term inconspicuous. ;)
DeleteThis is my first exposure to these two, and I love their banter! I'm ready to follow their adventures. And happy birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteAw, I missed Sigrid and Suko (and maybe Cary Caffrey a little too). They all have such good energy together. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for II!
:) Heidi
Oh, and a belated happy birthday!!
DeleteWooHoo! :)
DeleteNot met these two before - I'm amused and intrigued.
ReplyDeleteGone back and read the previous snippet about them - if anything, I'm more intrigued. I hope we'll see more of these two. As regards the dress/trousers question - it depends what you are doing. A long dress can be less noticeable than tight trousers. (On the other hand, I suspect if I tried wearing a dress it might draw rather a lot of attention...) Good snippet - thanks!
Sigrid says, "Thank you very much for the fashion tips." (She's still a 'fashion' novice, after all).
DeleteSo Sigrid wears the pants in this relationship? :-P
ReplyDeleteI sense this slice of... normality won't last very long.
