Snippet from my WiPpet
The Girls From Alcyone II: The Gilded Age

For those not familiar with TGfA, here's the premise in a nutshell: Taken from her home as a young girl, Sigrid Novak is one of a select and highly trained group of genetically (and bionically) enhanced girls. Both hunted and coveted (as a military asset and scientific curiosity), Sigrid and her friends have fled fled the Federation to make a new life for themselves on a secret and distant planet (a secret that, perhaps, won't stay secret for long).

This Week: This snippet is from a scene I'd definitely have to file under 'Guilty Pleasures'.

As if on queue, the steel gate of Sigrid's cell rattled open. Even here, deep in the bowels of the colosseum, she could hear the distinctive roar of the crowd, the heated chanting of thousands, as their feet pounded the flooring above her, stomping in time.

But it wasn't Sigrid's name that reverberated the lengths of the permacrete-lined corridor.
Sigrid's mouth fell open in a little gasp, "...the Crusher…?"
"I'm sure it's just one of those ironic nicknames," Kitten said, trying to be helpful. "You know, like when a they call the big guy Tiny…"
"Right…Ow! Stop that!"
It was the third time the guard had hit her with a blast from his stun baton—Sigrid was determined to make sure it was the last. But until she could find a way to remove the obedience collar…

  2. Good setup for some kick-A action...I'm confident she's up to the task, even with an obedience collar! Nice post.

  3. There's a sense of foreboding and humour in this ("...when they call the big guy tiny"). A great mix. Love it!

    1. It's been a long and bizarre road to get to this scene (it still might get bumped to book 3). Strange as it might sound, this is where the whole thing started for me.

Either that or I've been watching too much Spartacus again :)

  9. Can't wait for this one to come out for the Nook...love this snippet! And I definitely would NOT want to be the guard that keeps tagging Sigrid with the stun gun...

  14. Ooo, so excited to see a TGfA II as a WIP! But even with that collar, I think the guard is going to regret prodding her once too often with that baton.
