Juncos from Heaven - Sci-Fi Fantasy Saturday!

Read snippets from other SFFS authors here: scififansat.blogspot.com

Snippet from my WiPpet
The Girls From Alcyone II: Vengeance

This Week: Last week's snippet was very mysterious (possibly too mysterious!). So less mystery this week. This week, more action, and more Juncos falling from the sky. But this time we see what they're falling toward.

Raising the binoculars, Captain Tomanek scanned the skies again. The incoming ships were closer now; he could just make out their silhouettes. "Juncos… Bloody antiques…" he muttered. They were dropping in from orbit, unpowered, all their systems switched off. Their tactics were one of desperation, but there was a method to their madness. None of Tomanek's automated defenses could be brought to bear on the fighters.

It didn't matter. It was madness. Tomanek grunted. The attackers were committed to their suicidal descent, unable to maneuver—or fire their weapons for that matter. He knew they would wait to the last minute before switching everything on. And when they did, Tomanek's men would destroy them.
Something nagged at Tomanek; those fighters had to have come from somewhere. He tapped the com-unit clipped to his ear. "Madison, where's our overwatch. They must have picked something up by now—"
The immense sonic boom caused Tomanek to jerk his head up.

Silly Side Notes: I was going to post a 'sexy' bit, but I chickened out. Maybe next week.

  2. Aww! I like sexy bits!

Nevertheless, something tells me that Tomanek just got his answer.

    1. Perhaps if I'd thought to mention Tomanek's impressive physique ... his love of poetry and long walks on the beach ... his willingness to openly discuss his feelings ...

  6. Pairing this snippet with last week's is perfect. The unknown rush of action with the receiving end? Just an awesome contrast. I love hearing the tactician's side of it, too. Enjoyable read all around.

    1. Well, hopefully, if I'm successful, you won't know who you're supposed to root for all the way through to book four!

  11. You know, in my experience random suicide fighters dropping in is never a good thing. I hope he can bring weapons to bear in time.

  12. Uh oh. Loud booms are never good. I would think a sonic one would be even worse.
