This Week: Posting from my WiP
THE GIRLS FROM ALCYONE II: FREELANCER

In The Girls From Alcyone there is a character we have come to know as Harry Jones (aka Smith). Very little is known about Mr. Jones. In fact, should I tell you anything about him, I do fear Mr. Harry Jones would have me killed.

The taxi made its final turn into the Hospital parking lot, depositing Harry at the Visitor's entrance. His wife would be waiting for him, as she had been, as she always would. Harry bypassed the nursing station; there was little purpose in investigating her status. It would remain unchanged.
Harry checked his watch as he entered the elevator. In a little less than four hours a lone suborbital transport would lift off from a small atoll in the pacific. Its cargo, two wealthy business men; two men who would be left to wonder what had happened to Harry Jones, and why he'd been foolish enough to remain behind.
"Poor Harry," they would say as they savored unconscionably-priced brandies, marveled at their stock quotes. "He was a good man—useful in his day."
That transport would not reach its destination.

  1. Ohh. Never underestimate the Harry Joneses!! I like how this is written, with a slightly quirky touch. Good stuff!

    1. You're such a peach for stopping by (even when you're not writing).

    2. That's cuz Pot and Kettle needs to stick together to make the kitchen run smoothly. Though, I do like my new name Peach. Hehehe!

  2. I wonder what use the deaths of the two businessmen will serve?

    1. That will remain a mystery until publication! For now, let's just say they're a pair of stinkers who are about to get what's coming to them.

  3. He's so calm, so matter of fact. And the scene is so mundane, that when you hit the last sentence it's a delicious shock.

  4. I like how we start out with what seems to be such an intimate moment for him. Visiting his sick wife at the hospital (Coma, perhaps?), then thrusting with the soon to be destroyed transport.

    Love it!

  5. I wouldn't cross Henry Jones, either! Sounds like he's got fingers into everything and no one knows...

  6. Harry. Henry. I get them confused. I blame Shakespeare.

    1. That's funny, because I have another character named Henry, and I KNOW I must rename him for that very reason. *turns on Name-Generator*

    Bravo.
